Why even run if he can't create contrasts with the Republican fiascos of the past eight years? He doesn't have to be mean about it, but he has to make a case for change. 8 years ago George W. Bush said "They haven't led. We will." It was a crock, of course, but it was a clear contrast message. It would be political malpractice for Obama to attract 40 million viewers tonight and to waste it with policy prescriptions and thank yous to his supporters. That would be incredibly lame.
