But wouldn’t it be nice if we could have a real conversation about this? We could compare, say, the amount of terrorism we’ve stopped via police work, intelligence, international cooperation, financial interdiction, and so forth, and compare it to the amount of terrorism created by our military intervention in Iraq. And then we could talk about how the real September 10th mindset is the one that says it doesn’t matter what other people think of us because, you know, we’ve got the biggest military in the world and we can squash ‘em all like bugs anyway.
I say: bring ‘em on. Let’s talk about who’s naive vs. who’s learned some lessons from 9/11. The sooner the better.

The single largest problem this country has is its memory.
Or I suppose you could also blame it on just how un-informed people CHOOSE to be.
Prior to 911, most people knew little or nothing about Iraq or about Saddam Hussein. They also had no idea who Al Queda was.
Well here are some facts you can go find on many many reliable sites on the internet.
Saddam Hussein was brought to power with the help of the United States because the religious Ayatollahs would not cooperate with American Big Oil who wanted to drill in Iraq. So, they got rid of them with the help of Saddam Hussein. That deal only worked for a while then Saddam reneged on the deal and privatized all of the oil, oil fields, and production equipment. Basically threw Big Oil out of his country.
Then along comes the Iran Iraq war. Most people probably don’t remember it. What they might remember was the one and only REAL gas shortage this country has had. Because that was the one and only time there was not enough WORLD production to meet the WORLD’S demand. And the result was a REAL WORLD gas/oil shortage. Remember gas lines? That was the Iran/Iraq war.
As bad as that was. Oil still only went up to about $70.00 a barrel
The name Al Queda was created by the CIA along with the actual rag tag group of hired mercenaries from all over the middle east that made up Al Queda. The name is taken from “the database” which was the list of rebels in “Al Queda” If you haven’t yet seen “Charlies War”. It is about, why and how the U.S. created Al Queda to fight the Russians. Osama Bin Laden was nothing more than a guy they could give the money to that would pass it out to the mercenaries. This was not a religious war although that’s how it was packaged. By far the majority of the actual boots on the ground involved in the war were getting paid….that’s why they were there. Many of them came from other countries just to get paid to fight. AND GUESS WHO WAS PAYING THEM? The U.S. and Saudi Arabia.
In addition to outright giving them millions of dollars of cash, the U.S. also gave them weapons, and ammunition to include the shoulder fired stinger anti-aircraft missile launcher. Something we were very worried about during Gulf War I was. …. Just how many stingers they had left.
Ultimately they beat back the Russians and ruined the Russian economy in the process. The USSR collapsed not because someone beat them in battle but because they bankrupted themselves trying to fight that war.
Sound familiar?
There was never any significant connection between Iraq and Al Queda. Bush lied about that.
There was never any significant connection between Iraq and Osama Bin Laden. Bush lied about that.
There were never any WMDs and none have ever been found. Bush lied about that.
Basically there is very little that Bush claimed about Iraq being an imminent threat of attacking the U.S. was ever confirmed prior to invading Iraq or confirmed after the fact.
In fact the CIA and DOD did not think that Iraq was a threat and for good reason.
WE JUST GOT DONE POUNDING THE CRAP OUT IRAQ ONLY 8 YEARS BEFORE. We destroyed his army, his airforce, and most of his armor. We also found out he did not possess the means to target a scud which was called at the time a “flying pipe bomb”. He also NEVER USED CHEMICAL WEAPONS.
According to Bush, Iraq somehow managed to become an IMMINENT THREAT despite the fact there was a complete embargo on Iraq. U.S. aircraft were patrolling the northern 1/3rd of the country and southern 1/3 of the country as part of the NO FLY ZONE OVER IRAQ. What was left was an area just a little bigger than Pennsylvania.
Between the AWACs, U-2s, and satellites. there was nothing that went unseen in a area that small.
If you have never used “google earth”, then you have a very small limited idea of just how detailed the image from orbiting satellite can be.
Not only can it see a car sitting on a street in down town Baghdad. If need be. You could find out the license plate number.
There is absolutely no way a nuke weapons facility can “get lost” There is absolutely no way a facility capable of producing nukes could exist without our knowledge.
When N Korea exploded an under ground nuclear device. The U.S. flew an aircraft down wind collecting air samples.
From those airsample they were able to determine that yes N. Korea had in fact detonated a real live nuclear weapon.
They could also tell what kind of radio active material the bomb was made from and made an estimated guess as to the kilo ton of the explosive.
Yet you are supposed to believe Bush “thought” they had nuclear weapons and just can’t find them?
People say yeah but there were chemical weapons too and they are WMDs. The U.S. knows they had chemical weapons because the U.S. gave Iraq the chemical weapons. BUT WHILE HE WAS BEING ATTACKED HE DID NOT USE ANY.
Saddam didn’t just kill his own people….. He tested the chemical weapons. There were no actual orchestrated attacks to remove anyone from a specific area in Iraq. Instead the attacks were scattered and never done the same way or in the same area They took what they learned from each attack, counted the dead, improved on it and tested it again. And guess who was very interested in how those tests were going?
Not only was the U.S. interested. At the very same time Saddam was doing all those bad things and they were absolutely bad things. The U.S. was making deals to sell Iraq OUR AIRCRAFT. AT THE VERY SAME TIME THIS “TESTING” WAS GOING ON.
At NATTC Millington Tn in 1975 there were Iraqis, Iranians, Kuwaitis, and Saudi Arabian students going through our military aviation schools right along with our own military to learn to work on American made aircraft and to use our technical publications to maintain and service those aircraft.
But they attacked us on 911! ! ! ! !
Who did? ? ? ?
Most of the Hijackers were from Saudi Arabia.
For over 5 years now. Longer than we fought in Viet Nam or WW II we are told we are “fighting” an enemy with no tanks, no air force, no satellites, no communications system, no artillery, no Humvee, armored personnel carriers, no anti-anything.
And can’t seem to get the job done.
