I had a letter to the editor that I thought you might be interested in printing but I do not see how it can be done as you have no email address. The Forum apparently didn't want to publish it as it casts doubt on its political pals. You may not want it either and if I don't get an email from you I will assume as much.

Bold words, written and published anonymously. The Minard failure, although not so catastrophic as portrayed, nevertheless does represent a serious piece of mismanagement. I feel deep sympathy for the persons and units affected by it. The general tone of trauma in the article I chalk up to youthful inexperience. The university is hardly in crisis. Teaching and learning continue apace; research and service go on. We don't need a crisis conversation. We do need deliberate and reflective discussion about how, while we consolidate the gains of our expansionary phase, we also may elevate the university's academic stature. This will require commitment. Thus these words give me pause: "I no longer care whether the youth of North Dakota get quality education or not. Much as I love my students, the state just doesn’t deserve the effort." I encourage the author to seek better associations, restorative connections with people more committed to our students and more respectful of our public. These are fundamental land grant values.
